Teeth Whitening
Care Dental Spa offers our patients a variety of different options for teeth whitening. We do this because it gives our patients options regarding cost and time.
Most whitening material has carbamide peroxide
in it. Studies have shown that there is
no evidence that the whitening material damages existing fillings, damages
tooth enamel or has any adverse effect on the tooth's nerve. Used properly, there should not be any
harmful or adverse reactions. Also keep
in mind that the whitening process will NOT whiten or change the color of any
fillings, crowns, inlays, onlays, flippers or partials. So that being said, it is best to whiten your
teeth prior to doing your dental work so we can match the color of your
whitened teeth to any restorative work that will be done.
Some patients do develop sensitivity,
especially if they have had sensitivity in the past. There are ways to prevent or decrease the
sensitivity. Many patients have found
that if they use prescription strength fluoride toothpaste for at least seven
days prior to whitening, that this helps with the development of sensitivity. We can provide our patients with this
fluoride toothpaste for a minimal amount of money. Another way to help detour sensitivity is to
NOT brush your teeth prior to whitening. You can brush after the whitening
process.
Dr. Luong offers three different types of
whitening. The least expensive whitening
is the take home trays. Our patient will
come to the office and we will take an impression or mold of your teeth. A staff member will then fabricate your trays
in the office. You will be notified when
they are ready to be picked up. We do
ask that you try the trays prior to leaving so we can make sure they fit
properly. You will be given the
instructions and whitening material.
Initially we recommend that you whiten your teeth for 30 minutes to one
hour for seven consecutive days. After
you have achieved the level of whitening that you want, you will need to do
maintenance. Keep in mind, that what
your eat and drink can stain your teeth; therefore, you will need to whitening
your teeth periodically after the initial seven consecutive days of
whitening.
We also offer "whitening for
life". This is take home whitening
trays with a twist. Our patients that
come twice a year for their cleaning appointments are given whitening material
during their cleaning appointment. This often supplies our patients with enough
whitening material for the year.
The last option is called Zoom. This type of whitening is costly; however, in
the two hour appointment, our patients walk out of the office with beautifully
whitened teeth. They also receive the
take home whitening trays for their maintenance.
